The word Rockstar uses is "score," and that is not a technicality
Official. Rockstar's own one-paragraph story premise, unchanged on rockstargames.com/VI since Trailer 2, says Jason and Lucia find themselves in trouble "when an easy score goes wrong." Score. Not heist.
That distinction sounds pedantic until you notice how consistent it is. Across three official videos, eight character pages, roughly seventy screenshots and every Newswire post about the game, Rockstar has not once applied the word heist to GTA 6. Neither did the press who sat through the hands-off demo at Rockstar North — the recaps talk about robberies, hold-ups, bank jobs and scores.
The reason this matters is that "heist" in a GTA context is not a synonym for "big robbery." Since 2013 it has meant a specific machine: a planning board, a choice of approach, a menu of crew members with skill levels and percentage cuts, prep missions to gather vehicles and gear, then the job itself. When someone asks "does GTA 6 have heists," that machine is what they are asking about. And on that question, the honest answer today is that nobody outside Rockstar knows.
Every big score in official material
Official footage. What is beyond argument is that GTA 6 is full of major robberies. Here is the complete list of what Rockstar has actually published, with the source attached to each.
| What was shown | Source | What it proves |
|---|---|---|
| Masked bank robbery — Jason and Lucia in skull masks, tellers and hostages under control | Trailer 2, May 6, 2025 | Bank robberies are story content. Trailer 2's coverage led on it — Variety's headline was literally about bank robberies. |
| A bank vault dragged through Vice City behind a truck | Trailer 2 | A set-piece getaway on the scale of GTA 5's big three. Widely read as a Fast Five homage. |
| Store, gas station and diner hold-ups | An Extended Look, Aug 27, 2026 | Repeatable free-roam crime, not set pieces. Covered in depth on our money and robberies page. |
| An armored car being seized by a group | An Extended Look | The one shown score that plainly needs more than one person. Reported by Engadget and GamingBolt in their showcase breakdowns. |
| A getaway with Raul Bautista — Lucia driving, Jason and Raul firing at police | An Extended Look | A named supporting character participating in a job in gameplay. The strongest evidence for crew-shaped missions. |
| Larger bank jobs as an income source | Press recaps of the Rockstar North demo | Banks sit at the top of a robbery ladder rather than existing only in cutscenes. |
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — the official 26-minute presentation on Rockstar Games' YouTube channel, following its Netflix premiere on August 27, 2026.
Analysis. Read that table as a whole and a shape emerges that is genuinely different from GTA 5. In GTA 5 the big scores were islands — four heists, each a self-contained chapter with its own menu. GTA 6 looks like it is building one continuous ladder instead: a register grab and a bank vault are the bottom and top rungs of the same system, with the same fences, the same wanted-level pressure and the same speed-versus-profit decision at the safe. That is a design worth being excited about. It is also not the same thing as a heist system, and it may be what replaces one.
Raul Bautista, the closest thing to a heist-giver
Official, then analysis. Of the eight characters with a page on Rockstar's official site, exactly one has a bio about assembling people for big jobs. Raul Bautista is described as a seasoned bank robber recruiting fresh talent for bigger scores.
Since the Extended Look, he is also more than a bio. He appears in gameplay, in a car, shooting at police while Lucia drives — which means the game does put a named non-playable criminal inside a job alongside both protagonists. That is new information, and it is the detail that moves the crew question from pure speculation to reasonable inference.
As analysis: structurally, Raul reads like Lester. A veteran who does not pull the trigger so much as find the people who will is the oldest mission-architecture role in the series. But inference is where this has to stop. Rockstar has never called Raul a heist planner, never shown a menu attached to him, and never described what he actually gives you. Search his name and you will find pages stating that you consult Raul to hire crew members, buy high-end hacking tools and plan escape routes, alongside a prison-cellmate backstory and a former career in intelligence. None of that traces to Rockstar. Our complete character guide keeps the official bios and the invented ones apart.
Your crew is the other protagonist
Credible report. The one crew system GTA 6 demonstrably has is the pair at the centre of it. Rob Nelson of Rockstar North has said the protagonist you are not controlling participates rather than standing around, and the showcase bears that out: one drives while the other shoots out of the window, and switching works mid-job rather than only between missions.
This is the part most heist speculation skips, and it is the part most likely to matter. GTA 5 needed hired gunmen partly because Michael, Franklin and Trevor lived separate lives and rarely worked as a unit. Jason and Lucia are a unit by design — Rockstar has said you cannot write one of them out of the campaign. A two-hander with competent partner AI needs a hired crew far less than a three-hander did, which is a genuine reason to expect GTA 6's big scores to be structured differently rather than expanded from the GTA 5 template.
GTA 5 hired strangers because its protagonists were strangers to each other. GTA 6 already has its crew in the car.

What a GTA 5-style heist system would need
Here is the checklist that separates "GTA 6 has big robberies" from "GTA 6 has heists," component by component, with the current evidence for each.
| GTA 5 heist component | GTA 6 status |
|---|---|
| Planning board / mission prep hub | No evidence. Never shown or mentioned. |
| Choice of approach (Subtle vs Obvious) | No evidence. The only confirmed in-job choice is fast-vs-thorough at a safe. |
| Hired crew with skill levels and cuts | No evidence. No roster, no percentages, no hiring menu. |
| Prep missions (get the van, get the gear) | No evidence as a labelled system. |
| Scouting a target before committing | Partial. Reports describe banks and compounds appearing on the map with an estimated payout on hover — target evaluation, not a scouting mission. |
| A crew that participates in the job | Shown. The other protagonist, plus Raul in at least one sequence. |
| Payout that has to be converted to cash | Confirmed, and new. Loot goes in a duffel bag and is sold through fences rather than landing in your account. |
Five blanks, one partial, two confirmed — and the two confirmed rows are the ones GTA 6 does differently. That is the state of the evidence, and it is why a confident yes or no to "does GTA 6 have heists" is the tell that a page is guessing.
The diner robbery, 2022 to 2026
Credible report. One genuinely interesting wrinkle: the diner hold-up in the Extended Look is the same mission that appeared in the unauthorized September 2022 leak of an early build. Kotaku and GamesRadar both ran side-by-side comparisons after the showcase, and the mission survived four years and two delays essentially intact in layout and premise.
What that proves is worth stating precisely, because it gets overstated in both directions. It proves the 2022 material was real and that Rockstar did not rebuild the game from scratch after the breach. It does not make the leaked build's mechanics a preview of the shipping game — that footage documents a version from roughly 2019, and plenty in it has changed. We do not use leaked material as evidence for what GTA 6 contains, and we do not link to it; see our rumor policy and our story leaks tracker for how we handle it.
Where the "all confirmed heists" lists come from
Analysis. Search "GTA 6 heists" today and the results include mission lists, walkthroughs, approach guides and payout tables for a game nobody outside Rockstar has played. Some of these are whole sites built around a heist system that has never been described.
The most instructive example is a GTA 6 "crew optimizer" that lets you match gunmen, drivers and hackers to jobs. Read far enough down and it says the quiet part itself: the crew names and skill values are placeholders drawn from Trailer 2 character bios, to be calibrated once the game is out on November 19. That is an honest disclosure buried under an interface that presents itself as a tool for a real system. A reader who lands on the crew screen from a search result never reaches the footnote.
This is the same failure we traced through the "every confirmed weapon" lists, the radio station lineups and the three-endings pages: enormous demand, thin official information, and confident tables filling the gap. The tell is always the same — specificity with no source. A page that names a heist, assigns it three approaches and prints a payout figure is not reporting. It is writing fan fiction in the format of a wiki.
Online heists are not a launch question
Official. Worth separating out, because a lot of heist searching is really about multiplayer. GTA 6 ships on November 19, 2026 as a single-player game — no online mode appears in any official pre-order description — and Take-Two has said a new online component arrives after launch with no date attached. Our single-player launch and online plans page tracks that.
That matters here because GTA Online is where the modern heist template actually lives. Crew hiring, approach selection, prep grinding and the split screen at the end were refined across years of GTA Online updates, not in the GTA 5 campaign. Whatever GTA 6 does with heists in multiplayer is a question for a mode with no release date, and anyone writing GTA 6 online heist guides now is writing about nothing.
What would change this answer
- Rockstar using the word. A Newswire post, trailer caption or interview calling something in GTA 6 a heist would settle the vocabulary question immediately.
- A planning or crew interface on screen. One frame of a menu with crew names and cuts would confirm the system outright. There has not been one across 26 minutes of gameplay footage and roughly seventy screenshots.
- A third trailer. The trailer 3 tracker covers what a final pre-launch video would most likely lead on, and a marquee score is the obvious candidate.
- Hands-on previews. Everything so far is hands-off — journalists watching a developer play. The first time press actually hold a controller, mission structure is what they will describe.
Until one of those happens, the accurate summary is short. GTA 6 has scores, it has a robbery ladder that runs from a register to a vault, and it has at least one named criminal who rides along. Whether it has heists — the machine, not the word — is genuinely open, and we will update this page the moment that changes. Every official video is catalogued on our trailer timeline, and the Extended Look breakdown covers everything else the showcase confirmed.
Frequently asked questions
- Does GTA 6 have heists?
- Big robberies are certain; a GTA 5-style heist system is not. Rockstar has shown bank jobs, an armored-car takedown and a masked bank robbery in official material, and press coverage of Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look describes larger bank jobs as a major income source. What Rockstar has never described is the structure GTA 5 players mean by the word heist: a planning stage, a choice of approach, hired crew members with skill levels, and a cut of the take split between them. None of that has been shown, mentioned or confirmed. The honest answer is that GTA 6 has scores, and whether it has heists as a system is still unknown.
- Can you choose an approach for heists in GTA 6 like stealth or loud?
- There is no evidence of approach selection in GTA 6. Pages listing stealth, aggressive and hybrid approaches for named GTA 6 heists are not reporting anything Rockstar has said. The only in-job choice Rockstar has actually confirmed is much smaller and applies to robberies generally: at a safe you can blow it open quickly and damage some of the valuables, or spend longer finding the combination and recover more while the police close in. That is a moment-to-moment tradeoff inside a job, not a pre-mission approach the way GTA 5 offered Subtle or Obvious.
- Can you hire a crew in GTA 6?
- Not that anyone outside Rockstar knows. No crew-hiring menu, gunman roster, hacker, driver or cut-splitting system has appeared in any official GTA 6 video, screenshot or statement. The crew you can point to is the other protagonist: Rockstar has confirmed that the character you are not controlling participates rather than idling, and the Extended Look shows Lucia driving while Jason and Raul Bautista shoot at pursuing police. Raul is officially described as a bank robber recruiting talent for bigger scores, which makes a crew plausible, but plausible is not confirmed.
- Who is Raul Bautista in GTA 6?
- Raul Bautista is one of eight characters with an official page on rockstargames.com/VI, where he is described as a seasoned bank robber recruiting fresh talent for bigger scores. He also appears in Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look during an escape sequence, with Lucia driving while Jason and Raul fire at police. That is the sum of the official record. The detailed backstories, crew menus and hacking-tool shops attached to his name on other sites have no source behind them, and Rockstar has never called him a heist planner.
- Will GTA 6 have online heists at launch?
- No. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 as a single-player game. Every official pre-order description covers Jason and Lucia story content, and no online mode appears in the launch materials. Take-Two has said GTA Online continues and that a new online component for GTA 6 arrives after launch, with no date announced. Since GTA Online heists were the format that popularised crew hiring, approach selection and prep missions in the first place, anyone describing GTA 6 online heists is describing something that does not have a release date yet.
Source note: Rockstar's "easy score goes wrong" story premise and Raul Bautista's character bio are on rockstargames.com/VI; the showcase itself is documented on the Rockstar Newswire. The armored-car seizure, the store and diner hold-ups, the six-star wanted system and Raul's getaway sequence are described in showcase breakdowns by GamingBolt, Engadget and KeenGamer, which is also where the "larger bank jobs" income framing and the safe fast-vs-thorough choice come from. Trailer 2's masked bank robbery was covered by Variety. The diner mission's reappearance from the September 2022 leak was compared side by side by Kotaku and GamesRadar; we do not link to or draw evidence from the leaked footage itself. The crew optimizer whose values are disclosed as placeholders is at heistplanner.com. Rockstar Games has never used the word "heist" in published GTA 6 material, has never shown a planning or crew interface, and has never described an approach system; where this page says "no evidence," that is why.
