GTA 6 on Nintendo Switch 2: What Is Actually Known

Four separate rumors put GTA 6 on Switch 2. One came from a man who said in the same breath that he thought his source was lying, and one came from an account that described itself as fake news. Here is the whole chain, plus the PS4, Xbox One and Steam Deck answers.

Quick answer: GTA 6 is not coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on launch day. Rockstar has listed exactly two platforms since announcement — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and no Nintendo platform appears on the official site, the Newswire, or any storefront. But Rockstar has also never said the word "Switch" about GTA 6, so nothing is officially ruled out forever either. Every "GTA 6 Switch 2" story traces to one of four non-Rockstar sources: a YouTuber who doubted his own tipster, an insider claiming a 2027 port, a self-declared satire account, and a French retailer PDF. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version, and Steam Deck depends on a PC release that is still unannounced.

What Rockstar has actually said

Official. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That two-platform list has been consistent across the announcement, the official Grand Theft Auto VI site, the June 25, 2026 pre-order opening, and every storefront listing. You can buy it in exactly two places at launch, and neither is a Nintendo eShop.

Official — by absence. This is the part almost every page gets wrong in one direction or the other. Rockstar has never mentioned the Switch 2 in connection with GTA 6. There is no Newswire post announcing it, and there is equally no Newswire post denying it. Headlines reading "Rockstar confirms GTA 6 is skipping Switch 2" are describing silence, not a statement.

The honest formulation is the boring one, and it is worth getting exactly right if you are deciding what console to buy:

Every Switch 2 rumor, traced to its origin

The interesting thing about the "GTA 6 Switch 2" search results is that they are not one rumor repeated. They are four unrelated claims from four unrelated places, none of which corroborates any of the others, blended together by aggregation until they read like a body of evidence. Pulled apart, each one is weaker than the pile looks.

1. Kiwi Talkz and the source in India (January 2026)

Rumor. On January 20, 2026, the YouTuber Kiwi Talkz posted that he had "just finished chatting with my source in India, who claims that GTA 6 is coming to Switch 2 day and date with PS5 & Series S/X." This is the origin point for the day-one Switch 2 claim.

It is also self-refuting, and this rarely survives the aggregation. In the same breath, Kiwi Talkz said he believed his source was lying to him — his words were that the source is "full of s**t, despite his somewhat decent track record previously." A tipster claim that the person relaying it does not believe is not a leak. It is a man publishing something he thinks is false, and the internet keeping only the first half.

2. Nash Weedle and the 2027 port (June 2026)

Rumor. In late June 2026, an account called Nash Weedle claimed a GTA 6 Switch 2 port was in active development and would arrive in 2027 rather than at launch. This is where every "GTA 6 Switch 2 release date 2027" headline comes from.

No published track record is offered for the account in the reporting that carried it, no documentation was shown, and Rockstar has not addressed it. Worth noting alongside it: earlier chatter on the same subject only ever went as far as claiming developers were exploring or testing a port, and no reliable source has indicated that any such experiment went beyond a test. Internal feasibility work, if it happened at all, is not a product.

3. The satire account (2026)

Not a rumor — a joke people believed. A widely shared post put the official GTA VI cover art of Jason and Lucia together with Nintendo branding, presented as a Switch 2 announcement, and cited a real IGN pre-order article to make the gag land. It came from @DiscussingFish, an account whose own bio described it as a "parody satire fake news page." X later suspended the account after it had built roughly 70,000 followers on fabricated entertainment scoops.

A large number of people did not notice. If you have seen a GTA VI box with a Nintendo logo on it, this is almost certainly what you saw.

4. The Cdiscount PDF (September 2026)

Rumor. The most recent strand, and the freshest reason this question is spiking again. Around September 4, 2026, the French retailer Cdiscount published an offer disclaimer PDF listing GTA 6 in "Deluxe, Premium, Collector's and Ultimate Collector's" editions across Switch 2, Xbox and PS5. It surfaced through the outlet SwitchActu.

Two problems, and readers of this site have seen both before. First, the listing also names four editions that do not exist — GTA 6 has exactly two, Standard at $79.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. A document wrong about the editions is not a reliable source on the platforms. Second, retailer back-end listings are boilerplate: the same mechanism produced the placeholder pricing that drove the $100 base-game rumor, and the Best Buy date that drove a wave of wrong trailer predictions. Storefront databases are filled in by staff from templates, and they are routinely wrong.

The Zelnick quote used to argue both sides

Credible report, badly used. On Take-Two's Q4 FY2025 earnings call in May 2025, CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about supporting Nintendo's new console. He expressed what outlets described as great optimism about the relationship with Nintendo, and added that the company "would not necessarily bring every title to every platform," addressing platforms case by case.

That one sentence now gets quoted as proof in both directions — as evidence GTA 6 is Switch 2 bound because Take-Two is enthusiastic, and as evidence it is ruled out because Zelnick hedged. Three pieces of context get dropped every time:

Why the question will not die: Take-Two loves Switch 2

Official. The instinct to dismiss this as obviously impossible is wrong, and it is worth saying why. Take-Two, Rockstar's parent, has supported the Switch 2 aggressively. Civilization VII was there for the console's June 5, 2025 launch. WWE 2K25 followed in July 2025, NBA 2K26 in September 2025, and Borderlands 4 also landed on the platform, with WWE 2K26 arriving in March 2026.

So the publisher is not allergic to Nintendo hardware, and anyone arguing "Take-Two does not ship on Switch 2" is simply wrong on the facts. That is exactly why the rumor keeps regenerating. The correct reading is narrower: Take-Two supports Switch 2, and GTA 6 specifically has not been announced for it. Those two statements sit together comfortably.

The hardware problem, as analysis

Analysis — our read, not a fact. The feasibility argument is genuinely difficult, and we are not going to pretend to know Rockstar's engineering constraints. But one data point is concrete and public: Rockstar captured the Extended Look showcase on a base PlayStation 5, and Digital Foundry's frame analysis of that footage put it at 30fps, with our frame rate page covering Rob Nelson's on-record comment that console builds were running at 30 in development.

A game that is targeting 30fps on a PS5 has very little headroom underneath it. Getting it onto a hybrid handheld would be a substantially larger undertaking than a normal port — the kind of work that takes a dedicated team and a long time, which is consistent with the only claim in circulation putting a hypothetical port a year or more after launch. None of that makes it impossible. Rockstar shipped GTA V on the Xbox 360, a console with 512MB of shared memory. It does mean a Switch 2 version would be a project, not a checkbox.

PS4, Xbox One and Steam Deck

Official. There is no PS4 or Xbox One version of GTA 6, and none has ever been listed. This is a real break from precedent worth understanding: GTA V launched on the previous generation, PS3 and Xbox 360, in September 2013 and only reached PS4 and Xbox One fourteen months later. GTA 6 does the opposite and skips the old generation outright. If your household is still on a PS4, launch day requires new hardware — our PS5 versus Xbox comparison covers which one to pick.

Steam Deck is a PC question, not a console question. A Steam Deck runs PC games, so a Steam Deck version is downstream of a PC version — and Rockstar still has not announced a GTA 6 PC release date. Until a PC build exists there is nothing for a Deck to run, and any "GTA 6 Steam Deck settings" or "Deck performance" page you find is describing a game that does not exist on that platform. We track that separately on the PC release date tracker.

What Rockstar's own porting history suggests

Analysis. The reason "not at launch" is not the same as "never" is that Rockstar has a long record of re-releasing GTA V onto hardware it originally skipped:

PlatformGTA V releaseGap from original launch
PS3, Xbox 360September 17, 2013Original launch
PS4, Xbox OneNovember 18, 2014About 14 months
PCApril 14, 2015About 19 months
PS5, Xbox Series X|SMarch 15, 2022About 8.5 years
Any Nintendo home consoleNever

That last row is the one that matters here, and it cuts against the optimists. No mainline Grand Theft Auto has ever launched on a Nintendo home console. The GameCube and Wii got none of the 3D-era games. Nintendo's GTA history is handheld and back-catalogue: ports of the original Grand Theft Auto and GTA 2 on Game Boy Color in 1999 and 2000, Chinatown Wars on DS in 2009, and then Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition on Switch in November 2021, which is a remaster of games from 2001 to 2004.

So the pattern is real in one direction and absent in the other: Rockstar ports GTA V to everything eventually, and Rockstar has never put a flagship GTA on Nintendo home hardware at all. Both of those are true, and neither tells you what happens after November 19.

What would count as real confirmation

If a Switch 2 version is ever real, here is what it will look like — and none of it has happened:

Until one of those exists, the useful answer to "should I wait for the Switch 2 version" is no. There is nothing to wait for that anyone has announced. We will update this page the moment Rockstar says anything at all on the subject — including if it explicitly rules a Nintendo version out, which it has not done.

Frequently asked questions

Is GTA 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2?
Not on November 19, 2026. Rockstar has listed exactly two platforms since the game was announced — PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and no Nintendo platform appears on the official site, on the Rockstar Newswire, or in any storefront listing. Rockstar has never mentioned the Switch 2 in connection with GTA 6 at all, in either direction. What that means is narrower than most headlines suggest: there is no announced Switch 2 version, and there is also no official statement ruling one out forever. A later port is possible, because Rockstar has ported nearly every GTA to hardware it skipped at launch. It is not announced, scheduled or confirmed.
Where did the GTA 6 Switch 2 rumors come from?
From four separate and unrelated sources, none of them Rockstar. In January 2026 the YouTuber Kiwi Talkz relayed a claim from an unnamed source in India that GTA 6 would hit Switch 2 day and date with PS5 and Xbox — while saying in the same post that he believed his source was lying. In June 2026 an account called Nash Weedle claimed a port was in active development for 2027. A viral post pairing the official GTA VI cover art with Nintendo branding came from @DiscussingFish, an account whose own bio described it as a "parody satire fake news page", and which X later suspended. And in September 2026 a French retailer, Cdiscount, listed Switch 2 editions in an offer disclaimer PDF. None of these has been corroborated by Rockstar or Take-Two.
Did Take-Two rule out GTA 6 on Switch 2?
No, and the quote used to argue that is being stretched. On Take-Two's Q4 FY2025 earnings call in May 2025, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed optimism about Nintendo's new console and said the company would not necessarily bring every title to every platform. He was answering a general question about Switch 2 support, not a question about GTA 6, and he named no games. That single sentence is quoted on some pages as proof GTA 6 is coming and on others as proof it is cancelled. It is neither. It is a publisher declining to commit, more than a year before GTA 6 shipped.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4, Xbox One or Steam Deck?
No to all three. GTA 6 was announced as a current-generation release and has never been listed for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One; unlike GTA V, which launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013, this game skips the previous generation entirely. Steam Deck is a separate case: it is a PC, so a Steam Deck version depends entirely on a PC version, and Rockstar has still not announced a GTA 6 PC release date. Until there is a PC build there is nothing for a Steam Deck to run.
Could GTA 6 come to Switch 2 later?
It is plausible, and Rockstar's own history is the reason the question stays alive. GTA V launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, reached PS4 and Xbox One in November 2014, PC in April 2015, and PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2022 — roughly eight and a half years of re-releases. Take-Two also supports Switch 2 heavily, having shipped Civilization VII, WWE 2K25, NBA 2K26 and Borderlands 4 to it. But no mainline Grand Theft Auto has ever launched on a Nintendo home console, the only GTA games on Switch are 2021 remasters of titles from the early 2000s, and a port is a business decision Rockstar has not announced. Treat any specific date, including 2027, as rumor.

Source note: the confirmed platform list and November 19, 2026 date are from Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI site and storefront listings. The January 2026 Kiwi Talkz claim and his stated doubt about his own source are as reported by Vice. The Cdiscount offer-disclaimer PDF, its edition names, and the skepticism around it are as reported by Notebookcheck, which credits SwitchActu. The Nash Weedle 2027 port claim is as reported by Tech4Gamers. The @DiscussingFish satire post and its origin are as reported by GTA BOOM; the account's suspension and self-description are covered by Dexerto. Strauss Zelnick's Switch 2 remarks are from Take-Two's Q4 FY2025 earnings call as reported by Wccftech. GTA V platform dates and the GTA-on-Nintendo history are drawn from Rockstar's own release announcements and Kotaku's history of the series on Nintendo hardware.
