Why no real list can exist yet
Official. Cheat codes are not announced. They are found. Rockstar has never published a cheat list for any game in the series before launch — GTA 5 shipped in September 2013 with a full set of story-mode codes that players discovered, shared and catalogued themselves over the following days. There was no press release, no Newswire post, no pre-release reveal.
That matters here because it sets the only honest expectation available: whatever GTA 6 does or does not contain, the codes surface after November 19, 2026, from people with the game in front of them. Before that date there is no mechanism by which a working code could be public. Rockstar has not handed out review builds, and this site does not treat unauthorized material as evidence — see our rumor policy.
So the question "what are the GTA 6 cheat codes" has a boring, complete answer: nobody knows, including the people publishing tables of them.
What those lists actually contain
Analysis, clearly labeled. The interesting part is that most of these pages are not exactly lying. They are reprinting GTA 5's cheat codes under a GTA 6 headline, and the disclaimer is usually sitting several scrolls below the table nobody scrolls past.
Two examples you can check yourself:
- Gfinity Esports lists
RIGHT, X, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, R1, RIGHT, LEFT, X, TRIANGLEas a GTA 6 invincibility cheat. That is GTA 5's PlayStation invincibility code, character for character. The article does say it is covering "the cheat list that we expect in GTA 6" — but the page is titled as a GTA 6 cheat code list, and the codes are presented without noting they are lifted wholesale. - gta6cheatcodes.net gives
PAINKILLERfor PC invincibility — GTA 5's again, alongside its phone number1-999-724-654-5537. To its credit, this one is blunt about the arrangement: "GTA 5 codes — ready to use now. GTA 6 codes will be added the moment they're confirmed at launch."
Some of the bigger databases are cleaner still. GTABase states plainly that "the official list of GTA 6 Cheats for PC is not known yet" and frames its table as series staples likely to return. That is a defensible piece of writing wearing a misleading title.
The practical upshot for a reader: if a page shows you a GTA 6 code, check whether the identical string appears on a GTA 5 cheat page. It almost always does. The codes are real — they are just for a twelve-year-old game.
The PC tell
Official. Here is the fastest way to grade one of these pages without knowing anything about cheats. Count how many of them promise codes "for PS5, Xbox & PC."
Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6. The game launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and that is the entire confirmed platform list — we track the state of the PC question on our PC release date tracker. A page offering you keyboard cheat commands for a platform that has no announced release is not reporting on GTA 6. It is filling a template built for GTA 5, where PC console commands genuinely exist, and never checking the assumption.
That single tell disqualifies a large fraction of the results for this search, including several whose titles literally end in "(2026)."
The one "Rockstar confirmed it" claim, traced
Rumor — clearly labeled, and we think it is false. Exactly one assertion in this space claims official backing. The aggregator gta6matrix.com states:
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 will feature cheat codes — a Rockstar Games producer confirmed the phone dial system is returning at GDC 2026.
No source is attached. No producer is named, no session title is given, no link is offered. And that is the problem: a Rockstar developer publicly detailing an unannounced GTA 6 gameplay system at the industry's biggest conference would have been the games story of that week, covered everywhere. Nothing of the kind was reported. Rockstar has discussed GTA 6 systems on the record several times this year — Rob Nelson on map scale, on driving and fuel, on interiors — and cheats have come up in none of them.
Note also how the same page behaves elsewhere: it labels its own code tables "Expected" and "Pattern TBC — not yet confirmed," and states outright that no official GTA 6 cheat codes exist. The "Rockstar has confirmed" sentence contradicts the rest of its own page.
A related claim worth flagging: several sites assert that a "Cheat Activated" string was found in leaked GTA 6 files, which they treat as proof the system is built in. We do not treat unauthorized builds as evidence, and even the pages repeating this one concede it traces to a single source that has never been corroborated.
What GTA 5 and RDR2 actually did
Analysis, clearly labeled. If you want a genuinely useful prediction, ignore the code tables and look at how Rockstar has been changing the feature. The direction is consistent, and it is not the one nostalgia expects.
| GTA 5 (2013) | Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) | |
|---|---|---|
| How you enter one | Button combo in free roam, PC console via ~, or a phone number on the dial pad | Pause menu → Settings → Cheats, then type a phrase |
| Anything gating it? | No — the code is the whole requirement | Yes — many cheats require owning a specific in-game newspaper first |
| Does it persist? | No. Effects end on reload, restart or death, and most last five minutes | Yes. Unlocked cheats stay in a toggle list once saved |
| Trophies / achievements | Disabled for the session; reload a clean save to restore | Disabled the moment any cheat is toggled on, even unused |
| Saving | Allowed | Blocked entirely while cheats are active |
| Multiplayer | Never functional in GTA Online | Never functional in Red Dead Online |
Read as a trend, Rockstar has moved cheats from a spontaneous, throwaway toy into a discoverable, permanent, heavily penalised menu feature. RDR2's newspaper gate in particular turned cheats into collectibles. If GTA 6 continues that line, the answer to "what's the code for a tank" may not be a code at all — and the phone, which in GTA 5 doubled as a cheat keypad, is now a full app platform with a lot of other jobs.
That is speculation and we are labeling it as such. It is simply better-grounded speculation than a reprinted GTA 5 table.
What the Extended Look showed — and why silence proves nothing
Official. Rockstar's Extended Look, roughly 26 minutes of PS5-captured gameplay released August 27, 2026, contained no cheat menu, no cheat entry, and no reference to cheats. Neither did the hands-off press previews published alongside it.
We want to be careful about what that does and does not tell you, because this is where a lot of GTA 6 coverage goes wrong. The absence of a feature from a marketing video is not evidence the feature is missing from the game. A 26-minute showcase built to sell a world does not stop to demonstrate a menu that trivialises it. GTA 5 shipped with a complete cheat list that appeared in exactly none of its pre-launch marketing.
So the honest reading is narrow: we have no official material about GTA 6 cheats in either direction. Pages arguing "cheats are confirmed" and pages arguing "cheats were cut" are making the same mistake from opposite ends.
The launch-window scam wave
One practical warning, because the search term you used is about to get dangerous. In the weeks around a Rockstar launch, "cheat" queries attract downloads — trainers, mod menus, "unlock all" tools, and files promising early codes. These are the standard delivery mechanism for credential theft and account compromise, and on the multiplayer side they are a straightforward ban risk.
Real cheat codes are typed into the game. They are never a download, never an installer, and never a paid product. GTAWiki does not link to, host or describe any of that material, and no legitimate cheat page needs to.
Confirmed versus expected versus unverified
| Claim | Status | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Rockstar has published no GTA 6 cheat codes | Official | Absence across the GTA VI site, Newswire and all trailers |
| GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only | Official | Rockstar's own platform listing; no PC version announced |
| The Extended Look contained no cheat content | Official | Full ~26-minute video, August 27, 2026 |
| Circulating "GTA 6 codes" are GTA 5's codes | Verified | String-matched against GTA 5 cheat lists; several sites say so |
| GTA 6 will have cheats in some form | Expected | Series precedent only — no Rockstar statement |
| Cheats will use phone numbers again | Unverified | Extrapolated from GTA 5; RDR2 dropped the approach |
| A Rockstar producer confirmed cheats at GDC 2026 | Unverified | One unsourced site; no outlet reported any such session |
| Leaked files prove a cheat system exists | Unverified | Single uncorroborated source; unauthorized material |
| Any specific GTA 6 cheat code | Unverified | No finished build exists outside Rockstar |
When codes do surface after launch, they will come from players, fast, and they will be verifiable by anyone with the game. Until then, the useful preparation is knowing what cheats have historically cost you — a save, a session's trophies, or both. Our wanted level guide and weapons and inventory guide cover the systems people most often reach for cheats to bypass.
Frequently asked questions
- What are the GTA 6 cheat codes?
- There are none yet. Rockstar Games has never published a cheat code for Grand Theft Auto VI, and the game does not release until November 19, 2026. Nobody outside Rockstar has played the finished game, so no working code can exist in public. Every page currently ranking for "GTA 6 cheat codes" is publishing one of three things: GTA 5's codes under a GTA 6 heading, a list of cheat effects the author expects to return, or an invented list. Several of the larger sites say so in their own body text — the disclaimer is simply further down the page than the table.
- Are the GTA 6 cheat codes circulating online just GTA 5 codes?
- In most cases, yes, and it is easy to verify. Gfinity Esports lists "RIGHT, X, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, R1, RIGHT, LEFT, X, TRIANGLE" as a GTA 6 invincibility cheat. That is GTA 5's PlayStation invincibility code, unchanged. Gta6cheatcodes.net lists PAINKILLER for PC invincibility — also GTA 5's, along with its phone number 1-999-724-654-5537. That site is at least upfront about it, stating "GTA 5 codes — ready to use now. GTA 6 codes will be added the moment they're confirmed at launch." The codes are real codes. They are just for a different game.
- Will GTA 6 have cheat codes at all?
- Unknown, and Rockstar has said nothing either way. The precedent points toward yes: every mainline Grand Theft Auto has shipped with story-mode cheats, and Red Dead Redemption 2 had them too. But Rockstar has been tightening the system rather than loosening it. GTA 5 let you enter a code in free roam for a five-minute effect. RDR2 moved cheats into a pause-menu list, gated many of them behind finding a specific in-game newspaper first, and blocked saving entirely while any cheat was active. If GTA 6 continues that direction, "cheats" may look much less like a code you type.
- Did a Rockstar producer confirm GTA 6 cheats at GDC 2026?
- No such confirmation has been reported anywhere. The claim appears on at least one cheat-aggregator site, which states that "a Rockstar Games producer confirmed the phone dial system is returning at GDC 2026" and attaches no source, no name, no session title and no link. A Rockstar developer publicly detailing a GTA 6 gameplay system would have been covered by every games outlet in the world; nothing of the kind was. Rockstar has not discussed GTA 6 cheats in any Newswire post, trailer, or interview. Treat it as fabricated until someone produces the session.
- Do cheats disable trophies and achievements in GTA 6?
- Unknown for GTA 6, but both recent Rockstar games did exactly that, so plan for it. In GTA 5, using any cheat disables achievements and trophies for the current session; reloading a save made before you used one restores them. Red Dead Redemption 2 went further — trophies switch off the moment any cheat is toggled on, even if you are not actively using it, and the game blocks saving altogether. The standard advice for both is to make a manual save before touching cheats, and it is the advice most likely to carry over.
- Will GTA 6 cheats work in GTA Online?
- Almost certainly not. Cheat codes have never functioned in GTA Online on any platform — they are a single-player feature, and Rockstar disables them in multiplayer to protect the economy. Anything sold or downloaded as an online cheat is a third-party mod menu, which is a ban risk and a common malware vector. GTA 6 also launches single-player only; Rockstar has announced no online component for day one.
Source note: GTA 5's cheat behaviour (button combos in free roam, PC console entry, phone numbers, five-minute durations, session-length trophy suspension) is as documented by PC Gamer, PCGamesN and GTA BOOM. Red Dead Redemption 2's newspaper gating, pause-menu entry, save blocking and trophy suspension are as documented by GamesRadar and PowerPyx; Dexerto covers the same shift in Rockstar's approach. The circulating GTA 6 code lists quoted above are from Gfinity Esports, gta6cheatcodes.net, GTABase and gta6matrix.com, each checked on September 19, 2026; we link them so you can verify the comparison yourself, not as recommendations. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is embedded from Rockstar Games' official YouTube channel. We do not link to, host or describe leaked builds, trainers, mod menus or any cheat download.
