Every aircraft in official GTA 6 material
Official. Rockstar has published three GTA 6 videos — Trailer 1 in December 2023, Trailer 2 in May 2025, and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look in August 2026 — plus a set of official screenshots. Collected in one place, here is every aircraft that genuinely appears in them.
That table is the whole honest state of GTA 6 aviation. It is a great deal more than nothing — these are not distant skybox props, they are modelled aircraft doing aircraft things — and it is still short of the one thing everybody is actually asking about.
The two screenshots that do the most work
Analysis. Two official images carry almost all of the weight on this topic, and both reward a closer look than they usually get.
The seaplane over the Keys is the more suggestive of the pair. Rockstar framed it from behind and slightly above the aircraft, trailing it as it banks over the shallows beside the causeway — which is, near enough, the third-person chase camera the series uses for a vehicle you are driving. It is fair to notice that. It is not fair to call it proof: Rockstar's promotional screenshots are art-directed, and the studio frames NPC vehicles cinematically all the time. Read it as a strong hint rather than a confirmation, and note what it does establish outright — a seaplane with functioning floats exists in a region built almost entirely of water and islands.

The jet over the Vice City sign answers a different question. The landing gear is down and the aircraft is low and nose-high, which is a landing configuration rather than a flyover, and the framework and towers behind the letters read as airfield infrastructure. You do not need Rockstar to announce an airport to conclude there is a runway under that jet. What you cannot conclude is its name — the labels circulating for it come from previous games in the series, not from anything Rockstar has published about this one. Our Vice City guide covers the districts around it, and the Leonida Keys guide covers the island chain the seaplane is crossing.
Helicopters are the strongest case
Official. If you want the single most solid piece of aviation evidence in GTA 6, it is not a plane at all. It is the police helicopter in the Extended Look's pursuit sequence.
During the four-star chase, Lucia drives while Jason moves into the back seat and fires a rifle out of the rear window, and he takes down police helicopters along with the patrol cars behind them. A helicopter tracks the car from overhead at the same time, which is the detail that matters most: pursuit in GTA 6 is not limited to what is directly behind you. That single sequence establishes helicopters as AI-piloted, damageable, physically simulated vehicles operating live in the world rather than set dressing — a much higher bar than "it appears in a trailer."
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look — the official presentation on Rockstar Games' YouTube channel, following its Netflix premiere on August 27, 2026. The police helicopter appears in the pursuit sequence; nobody flies one.
It also sets up an obvious and completely unanswered follow-up. Air support arriving at four stars implies air support escalating at five and six — and the rebuilt six-star wanted system has never been demonstrated at its top tiers. Whether that means more helicopters, spotlights, or something the series has not used before is not known.
"Present" and "flyable" are not the same claim
Analysis. This is the distinction that nearly every GTA 6 aircraft page collapses, and keeping it straight resolves the entire topic.
| Claim | Status | What supports it |
|---|---|---|
| Aircraft exist in Leonida | Confirmed | Official screenshots and footage. Not in dispute. |
| Helicopters function as live pursuit vehicles | Confirmed | The Extended Look chase, where they track and are shot down. |
| There is at least one airport | Strongly implied | A jet on final approach in an official screenshot. Never stated by Rockstar. |
| The player can pilot aircraft | Unconfirmed | Series precedent only. No official footage, no Rockstar statement. |
| Specific aircraft models are confirmed | Not confirmed | Fan identification of silhouettes against older GTA vehicles. |
| Flight school, hangars, purchasable aircraft | No evidence | Nothing shown or said. Assumed from GTA 5. |
Rockstar's marketing pattern is worth holding in mind before reading absence as evidence. The studio kept the Criminal Profile system and the body and weight simulation entirely out of two trailers and revealed them only in a 26-minute showcase almost three years later. Aviation not appearing in marketing built around a crime story on the ground tells you very little about whether it ships.
The flying footage everyone cites is leaked
Rumor. Search this topic and you will find confident claims that plane flying is confirmed, sometimes with descriptions of the aircraft, the time of day and what was visible below. That material has a single origin, and it is not Rockstar.
Beginning around August 18, 2026 — days before the Extended Look premiere — an account operating as CyberLeek published a stream of unauthorized GTA 6 footage. Clips dated roughly August 23–24 reportedly included a character flying a propeller plane over Leonida in daylight and a small plane over Vice City after dark. Outlets including Kotaku and Dexerto covered the leak's existence, and Rockstar responded with DMCA takedown requests — which is not a confirmation of authenticity, but is the strongest indirect signal available, since nobody issues takedowns over footage from a game they did not make.
We do not use leaked builds. We will not link to it, embed it, or catalogue what it shows, and that policy is set out on our rumor policy page. Reporting that a leak happened is journalism; laundering its contents into a "confirmed features" list is not. The reason it matters here is practical: when a page tells you flying is confirmed in GTA 6, this is overwhelmingly what it is citing without saying so. You are entitled to know that the source of a "confirmed" claim is stolen footage of an unfinished build rather than the developer.
A leak can be real and still not be a confirmation. Rockstar has not shown you this.
— the distinction that makes this topic tractable
Nobody has a confirmed aircraft name
Rumor. Aircraft lists for GTA 6 are published with names attached — Police Maverick, Shamal, Sea Sparrow — and stat tables beside them. Rockstar has never named an aircraft in GTA 6. Not in a trailer, not in a screenshot caption, not on the official site, not in a Newswire post, not in any on-record developer interview.
What those names actually are: fan sites looking at an airframe on screen, matching its silhouette to a vehicle from a previous GTA game, and carrying the old name forward. That is a reasonable inference — Rockstar does reuse vehicle brands across entries, and some of these will likely prove correct. It is an inference all the same, and it gets printed as fact with a specificity that the evidence does not carry. Stat tables for unannounced aircraft in an unreleased game are simply invented.
This is the same failure pattern we traced through the "every confirmed weapon" lists, which name real-world firearms the series has never used, and the radio station lineups presented as official when they came from the same August 2026 leak. When a topic has real demand and thin official information, confident lists fill the gap.
What the series precedent actually supports
Official history. The case for flying in GTA 6 does not rest on leaks at all. It rests on twenty-five years of consistency, which is a perfectly good reason to expect something as long as you label it an expectation.
| Game | Aircraft | Aviation content |
|---|---|---|
| GTA: San Andreas (2004) | Planes, helicopters, jets | A dedicated Pilot School, purchasable hangars and airstrips, flight skill that improved with use. |
| GTA 5 (2013) | Extensive, from prop planes to fighter jets | Flight School at Los Santos International using the Mallard and the Frogger; flying skill tracked per character. |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) | None — wrong era | Not applicable, and worth noting when people cite RDR2 systems as a GTA 6 template. |
| GTA 6 (Nov 19, 2026) | Seaplane, business jet, helicopters shown | Nothing announced. No flight school, hangar, skill system or pilotable aircraft demonstrated. |
Analysis. Every mainline 3D-era GTA has let players fly, and GTA 6's map makes it close to structural rather than optional: Leonida is a state, not a city, spanning Vice City, the Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands, Port Gellhorn and Mount Kalaga. Our map size comparison covers the scale question in detail. A world that large with only ground transport would be a deliberate and very loud design decision — and Rockstar has said nothing either way. That is the honest ceiling on this: extremely likely, entirely unconfirmed.
What is still unknown
- Whether the player can fly at all. The central question, and there is no official answer to it.
- Whether aircraft can be owned or stored. No hangar, airfield property or aircraft purchase has been shown. The property and safehouse breakdown covers what storage has actually been demonstrated, and it is garages and wardrobes.
- Whether there is a flight school or flying skill. Both existed in San Andreas and GTA 5. Neither has been mentioned for GTA 6.
- What any aircraft is called. Not one name has come from Rockstar.
- Where the airports are. One is implied by the jet on approach; none has been named, located or shown on a map.
- How air support scales at five and six stars. Helicopters appear at four. The top wanted tiers have never been demonstrated.
- Whether flying appears in marketing before launch. With the release on November 19, 2026, there is still room for another official video.
We will update this page the moment Rockstar shows a player flying anything, or names a single aircraft. Until then, the accurate answer to "can you fly planes in GTA 6" is that it is very likely and nobody outside Rockstar has seen it. Every official video the studio has released is catalogued on our trailer timeline, and the Extended Look breakdown covers every system the showcase put on the record.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you fly planes in GTA 6?
- Almost certainly yes, but Rockstar has not demonstrated it. Planes are visibly present in Leonida — an official screenshot shows a float-equipped seaplane flying over the Leonida Keys causeway, another shows a business jet descending over the Vice City sign with its landing gear down, and the Extended Look includes a sequence where Jason and Lucia board a private plane. What no official Rockstar footage has ever shown is a player character taking the controls of a fixed-wing aircraft. Every mainline 3D-era GTA game since GTA III has let you fly, so the expectation is well founded, but expectation is not confirmation.
- Are there helicopters in GTA 6?
- Yes, and this is the strongest aviation evidence in the game. Helicopters appear in Trailer 1 and Trailer 2, and Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look features them as an active part of police pursuit — during the four-star chase, Jason climbs into the back seat and fires a rifle out of the rear window, taking out police helicopters as well as patrol cars, while a helicopter tracks the car from overhead. That establishes helicopters as functioning, damageable, AI-piloted vehicles in the live game world. Whether the player can fly one has still never been shown.
- Has Rockstar named any GTA 6 aircraft?
- No. Not one aircraft has been named by Rockstar Games in any trailer, screenshot caption, Newswire post or official site copy. The names circulating as confirmed — Police Maverick, Shamal, Sea Sparrow — come from fan sites identifying airframes by their on-screen silhouettes and matching them to vehicles from previous GTA games. Some of those identifications may well turn out to be right, since Rockstar reuses vehicle brands across entries. They are still fan identifications rather than confirmations, and no GTA 6 aircraft list should be presented as official.
- Was there GTA 6 plane flying gameplay leaked?
- Yes, and that is exactly the problem with most pages on this topic. In August 2026 an account operating as CyberLeek published a run of unauthorized GTA 6 footage, and clips dated around August 23–24 reportedly showed a character flying a propeller plane over Leonida in daylight and a small plane over Vice City at night. Rockstar responded with DMCA takedowns, which is the closest thing to an authenticity signal that exists. We do not link to, embed or describe leaked material in detail — see our rumor policy. The point worth knowing is that when a page tells you flying is confirmed, this leak is usually what it is quietly citing, not Rockstar.
- Is there an airport in GTA 6?
- Official material strongly indicates yes, though Rockstar has never named it. The official screenshot of the giant VICE CITY letters shows a business jet passing directly overhead with its landing gear extended — an aircraft configured for landing, not cruising — and the structures behind the sign read as airfield infrastructure. An aircraft on final approach implies a runway beneath it. Fan sites calling it Vice City International or Escobar International are extrapolating from earlier games in the series; neither name has appeared in any GTA 6 material.
Source note: the seaplane over the Leonida Keys highway and the business jet over the VICE CITY sign are official Grand Theft Auto VI media from Rockstar Games, used here as editorial context; the observations about camera framing and landing-gear configuration are our own analysis and are labeled as such. The Extended Look pursuit sequence — Jason firing from the back seat and taking out helicopters and patrol cars while a helicopter tracks the car overhead — and the corporate-gala private plane are described in Engadget's breakdown of the showcase. The August 2026 CyberLeek leak timeline, the reported flying clips and Rockstar's DMCA takedown response were reported by Dexerto; we link the reporting, never the material. GTA 5's Flight School at Los Santos International and its Mallard and Frogger lessons are documented at GTABase. Rockstar Games has never named a GTA 6 aircraft or commented on player-controlled flight; where this page says "unconfirmed," that is why. We do not use leaked build footage — see our rumor policy.
