GTA 6 Patch Notes: Day-One Update and Every Title Update

There are no GTA 6 patch notes yet. Rockstar Games hasn't announced a day-one patch or published any update for the game, which launches on November 19, 2026. This page logs every GTA 6 update the day it appears: the version, the date, the platforms and what changed, in plain English.

Is there a GTA 6 day-one patch?

Nobody knows yet. Rockstar hasn't announced one, and no download size for one has appeared on PlayStation or Xbox.

Day-one patches are common for big console games, because development continues after the version on the store is locked. Reported Rockstar's own history includes one: GTA V's PS4 version had a 1.14 GB day-one patch in November 2014, according to PlayStation Universe. A patch for GTA 6 could be much bigger or smaller than that. Until Rockstar or the stores show a number, any size you see is a guess.

What it means in practice: Reported the GTA 6 download is reported at 210 GB on PS5, and a launch update would need extra space on top. Our pre-load planner keeps 30 GB spare for exactly this reason, as our own safety margin.

Where Rockstar posts patch notes

Official Rockstar publishes notes for each game update on its support site, Rockstar Support, under titles like "Red Dead Redemption 2 Title Update 1.03 Notes (PS4 / Xbox One)". Each page lists the version number, the platforms and the fixes. Bigger updates are sometimes announced on the Rockstar Newswire too.

We expect GTA 6 notes to follow the same pattern. That's our expectation, not an announcement. As soon as a GTA 6 title update page appears, we'll link it here and sum up what changed.

What a title update number tells you

Rockstar numbers its updates. Red Dead Redemption 2's notes run from Title Update 1.01 onward, and the number goes up with each release. Small updates usually fix bugs and improve stability; bigger ones can add features or content.

One quirk is worth knowing. Some Rockstar Support pages collect several dated entries under one update number, so check the date at the top of each entry, not just the title. On the day GTA 6's first notes appear, we'll show the version, the date Rockstar gives and which consoles get it, so you can tell at a glance whether your copy needs it.

How to make sure GTA 6 is up to date

Updates download automatically on both consoles if automatic updates are on and the console stays connected to the internet. Before launch night:

  • PS5: check that automatic downloads and updates are turned on in the system settings, and allow the console to stay connected to the internet in rest mode.
  • Xbox Series X|S: check that updates for your games are set to install automatically, and use the power mode that lets the console download while it's off.
  • Both: if a game won't start because an update is needed, open the game's options or management screen and check for updates manually.

Free space matters here too. If your console is nearly full after the pre-load, an update can fail to install. Our file size and pre-load guide has the latest size reports, and the launch hub has everything else for launch week.

What updates could change after launch

Rockstar's past games got regular title updates after release, with bug fixes, stability improvements and, sometimes, new features. Red Dead Redemption 2's Rockstar Support pages list updates running for years after its 2018 launch.

For GTA 6, it's too early to say what the first updates will bring. Official None of Rockstar's edition announcements mention an online mode, so we won't guess when, or if, online content arrives through an update. When the notes appear, we'll separate them into fixes, changes and new content, and flag anything that affects saves or trophies.

Our take

Our read is that a launch-day update is likely, because almost every big release has one, but its size is the real unknown for anyone short on storage. The safest plan is simple: pre-load early, leave some space spare, and keep the console online on launch night. We'll put each update's notes here within the day they're posted.

FAQ

Does GTA 6 have a day-one patch?

Rockstar hasn't announced one as of October 30, 2026. Day-one patches are common for big console games, and GTA V had one in 2014, so it's worth leaving space for one. This page will confirm it the day one appears.

Where can I find GTA 6 patch notes?

Rockstar posts patch notes for its games on Rockstar Support as "Title Update" notes. No GTA 6 notes exist yet. When they do, we'll link them on this page with a plain-English summary.

How big is the GTA 6 day-one patch?

Unknown. No size has been announced or shown on PlayStation or Xbox. For comparison, GTA V's PS4 day-one patch was 1.14 GB in 2014, but GTA 6's could be very different.

How do I update GTA 6 on PS5 or Xbox?

Updates install automatically when automatic updates are on and the console is online, including in rest mode on PS5 and with the right power setting on Xbox. You can also check for an update manually from the game's options or management screen.

Will I need to be online to play GTA 6 on launch day?

You'll need to be online to download the game, any launch update and, if you pre-loaded, to unlock it when your region's time arrives. Rockstar hasn't detailed whether the story can be played fully offline after that.
