GTA 6 has more gangs than Rockstar has ever named out loud. From the official character pages, region pages, screenshots and the 30-minute Extended Look, we count eleven crews and factions, from Brian Heder's smugglers in the Keys to a biker club in Ambrosia whose name only appears on its vests. Some are Jason and Lucia's employers, some are targets, and a few are simply part of the scenery. Here is every one, where it operates and how it connects to the story.

The video above covers the same ground in about ten minutes. Below, each crew gets its own entry with what Rockstar actually said or showed.

The bosses Jason and Lucia work for

Brian Heder's smuggling crew (Leonida Keys)

Official Rockstar calls Brian "a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys". He still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and he has been around long enough to let others do his dirty work. One of those others is Jason: his character page says he ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners, and Brian lets him live rent-free as long as he helps with local shakedowns.

Official Brian's marina appears in Trailer 2 and the Launch Trailer, with a floodlit "Brian's Boat Works & Marina" shed holding a small helicopter. Cal Hampton, Jason's friend who likes listening in on Coast Guard radio, is described as "a fellow associate of Brian's". Brian is also the bridge to the next crew: Raul Bautista is his old cellmate, and Brian sets up the introduction.

Boobie Ike's empire (Vice City)

Official Boobie Ike is "a local Vice City legend", and he turned his street years into real estate, the Jack of Hearts strip club and Only Raw Records, which he runs with Dre'Quan Priest. His own line on the official site leaves no doubt about the business model:

"The club money pay for the studio, and the drug money pay for it all."

Boobie Ike, Rockstar Games character page

Official Only Raw's big signing is the rap duo Real Dimez, Bae-Luxe and Roxy, who started out "shaking down local dealers". In the Extended Look, Jason and Lucia make a drug pickup "for Boobie" and leave with what the dialogue calls "Boobie's bricks". That makes Boobie a client rather than a boss, at least so far. Our characters guide has the full profiles.

Raul Bautista's crew

Official Raul is "a seasoned bank robber always on the hunt for talent". Rockstar also warns that his recklessness "raises the stakes with every score". In the Extended Look he tests Lucia with "A professional adapts", and by the end of the job the couple agree they are in his crew. That job turns into a street shootout with police pickups and a helicopter at four wanted stars, which Nelson described to IGN as essentially a police chase. If you want to know how those fights escalate, our wanted system guide breaks it down.

Vice City's street gangs

San4San

Official This is the gang Rockstar never announced. About a minute into the Extended Look, a label reading SAN4SAN sits in the corner of the screen for roughly four seconds while Jason faces a man in a lobby. That man wears stacked gold chains with an "S4S" pendant, and so does the shirtless boss of the drug lab upstairs, whom someone calls "Ray".

Our read: the label sits on the aim button, not a talk button, so it most likely shows the gang of the person you are looking at. Rockstar hasn't explained that screen. Rumor Fan wikis call San4San a Haitian gang, pointing to a "La Perle VC" mural with Haiti's coat of arms that police drive past in Trailer 2. The mural is real; the link between the two is a fan theory.

PTT Youngin$

Official The Ultimate Edition's bonus list includes a raid on the PTT Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store, the compound of "one of Southside Vice City's loudest and most socially active gangs". You raid it and escape with special items and contraband. Rockstar hasn't said what PTT stands for, and "Southside" appears only in this edition text so far. The editions guide lists everything else in the $99.99 package.

The street crews

Official Not every crew has a name. The Launch Trailer shows three men cruising in a green lowrider with a gold spider-web paint job, one dangling a pistol out of the window. Trailer 1 has packs of dirt bikes and quads tearing through traffic under a Weazel News headline about "dirt-bike dirt-bags" terrorizing Vice City. Nelson told IGN that other people in the world have their own impulses and that gangs "may attack you".

Our read: the dirt-bike riders could be the PTT Youngin$, since the PTT image also shows a bike being filmed on a phone. Rockstar hasn't connected them.

The mystery gunmen

Official Two groups in the Extended Look have no name at all. During the drug pickup, Ray's partner phones in and says his "friends on the task force" are on their way; men in vests marked POLICE then raid the lab. Later, gunmen in white coveralls storm a party at Megamundo's headquarters. Nobody says who sent either group. Reported PC Gamer read the raiders as corrupt cops, which fits the scene but isn't stated. Our story explainer walks through both scenes in order.

Gangs outside Vice City

Final Chapter MC (Ambrosia)

Official Rockstar's Ambrosia page says the Allied Crystal sugar refinery "provides the jobs, while the local biker gang provides almost everything else". The text never names the club, but the vests in the official screenshot do: Final Chapter, with "1982" and "MC" tabs and "Ambrosia" underneath, around a hooded skull holding an open book. A second screenshot shows a biker with an "Enforcer" patch while a woman holds a revolver in front of him.

The same shot of the pack shows yard signs for Allied Crystal and a candidate called Erin Henshaw, and a sign for the Ambrosia County Sheriff's Office. Rockstar only puts them in the same frame; it hasn't said the bikers back the company or the candidate.

Port Gellhorn's hustlers

Official Port Gellhorn, "Leonida's forgotten coast", has no named gang, but its region text describes a "new economy" fuelled by "malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks". Its screenshots include two men in a room full of grow lights, one with a shovel and one with a baseball bat, and a woman handing a bag of blue pills into a car's back seat. Linking that bag to "painkillers" is our read.

The Grassrivers outdoorsmen

Official Game Informer's caption sums up the wetlands: "Alligators, Airboats, and Armed outdoorsmen". Rockstar's own page says there are "far deadlier predators" than the gators among the mangroves, and an official screenshot shows three mud-covered people on an airboat with a dead alligator, one holding an automatic weapon. The group has no name. Calling them poachers is our guess.

Mount Kalaga's radicals

Official In the far north, Rockstar writes that "hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals live far from the prying eyes of the government" in the backwoods around Mount Kalaga National Park. One screenshot shows two people with rifles walking through the woods; Rockstar doesn't say whether they're hunters or radicals. See the map guide for where each region sits.

The law: who hunts every gang

Official The police are the one faction every crew shares. An official screenshot shows a patrol car marked Vicebeach Police, and out of town the trailers show Mariana County and Ambrosia County sheriffs. No FIB, cartel or Mafia family appears in any official material so far, and "task force" is only said in dialogue.

Official The police in GTA 6 remember your outfit and your car, and they know Jason and Lucia are a couple. If either of you is arrested, you're both busted. Rockstar's writers told Game Informer and LOVE magazine that their research included riding with former police officers, and Rockstar's Garbut told LOVE the team also travelled with gang members.

How you'll fight gangs: compounds

Official Nelson told IGN the open world has "robberies to do, gang compounds to hit, and car fences to steal cars for". Reported TweakTown, writing from a creator preview, says robberies come in tiers that end with compounds held by gangs and groups, that these hold drugs, money and guns, and that one compound is only in the Ultimate Edition. Reported A fan translation of Famitsu's interview says the map can show how much cash and drugs a hideout holds before you sneak in. Our robberies and money guide covers the rest of the criminal economy.

Our take

GTA 6's gangs look less like the color-coded turf factions of San Andreas and more like a web of businesses. Brian launders through a marina, Boobie through a club and a label, Raul through jobs. The interesting part is how much Rockstar shows without telling: San4San's name flashes by on a UI label, and the bikers' name exists only on their patches. Expect most of these crews to get proper introductions on November 19, and expect at least a few we haven't seen yet. We'll update this list as the game reveals them.
