GTA 6 is not GTA 5 with a new map. One arrest busts both leads, the cops remember your outfit, cars need scanning and the story can wait for your money. Here are 30 things to know before November 19, each with its source.

GTA 6 launches on Thursday, November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. If you go in expecting GTA 5 with a bigger map, the first day will hurt: one arrest busts both leads, a cap and sunglasses won't fool the police, and the box doesn't even have a disc. Here are the 30 things worth knowing first, each labelled Official (Rockstar said or showed it) or Reported (an outlet or a creator relayed it). The video above covers the same list in 15 minutes.

Before launch day

  1. Official November 19, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only. The game was delayed twice: from fall 2025 to May 26, 2026, then to November 19, thirteen years after GTA 5. Our release date and platforms hub has the full timeline.
  2. Reported No PC version is announced. GamesBeat reported in October that PC comes in early 2027, citing four anonymous sources; Rockstar and Take-Two didn't comment. For comparison, GTA 5 took 19 months to reach PC.
  3. Official There is no disc in the box. Rockstar says plainly that a disc won't be included: the physical copy is a download code, on sale from November 12 so box buyers can download early too.
  4. Official Pre-load opens November 12 for digital pre-orders. Rockstar hasn't given a download size, a pre-load time or an unlock hour. Reported PlayStation Store listings point to local midnight on November 19; our unlock time page converts that for every time zone. Clear space early: no size is official, and the numbers going around are guesses.
  5. Official No edition gets you in early. Standard is $79.99; Ultimate is $99.99 and digital only, with 16 extras across the story and five businesses only it opens (Rideout Customs, Sara's Unisex Salon, Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo and One-Eyed Willie's), but no in-game cash. Buy before November 20 for the free Vintage Vice City Pack. The free GTA+ month is for GTA Online, not GTA 6. Our editions guide lists every item.
  6. Reported Nobody has promised 60 fps. Rob Nelson reportedly told a creator that development builds ran at 30 fps on consoles, and that a 60 fps mode is for the tech team to decide. The PlayStation Store shows a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge, with no details on what it adds.
  7. Official No review date yet, and every "PC download" is fake. Rockstar hasn't announced a review embargo. Security researchers found fake GTA 6 "builds" carrying password stealers and ransomware. No real copy has leaked, so don't download anything that claims to be one.

Leonida, the map

  1. Official Six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. Vice City's streets are narrow and its traffic is dense, so car chases are harder than in Los Santos.
  2. Official The biggest map Rockstar has made. Aaron Garbut told Game Informer it's the biggest "by some degree", and twice as large as GTA 5. Rockstar hasn't said what "twice" measures. See our Leonida map guide for every region.
  3. Official Not everything gets an icon. Plenty of content is found only by exploring, with no blip on the map, and the pause map looks like satellite imagery.
  4. Official Local weather and over 170 animal species. It can rain in one area while the next is sunny, and tropical storms and hurricanes are in the game.

Jason and Lucia

  1. Official Who they are. Jason served in the Army and works for drug runners in the Keys. Lucia went to the Leonida Penitentiary after fighting for her family and got out by sheer luck. Her ankle tag is part of the story and part of how the two meet.
  2. Official The crew around them: Cal Hampton, Brian Heder, Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez and Raul Bautista. Our characters guide covers each one.
  3. Official Switch almost any time. Switching can be turned off at points in the story, and the lead you're not playing keeps their own schedule: switch and they may be at the safehouse or out on their own.
  4. Official One arrest busts you both. Even if the other one got away, it's "Busted" for the pair.
  5. Official The romance is up to you. They always stay partners in crime; whether they're also a couple is your choice. Ignore your partner's texts and the relationship suffers. Robbing a store together counts as quality time.
  6. Official Their bodies change. Overeat and they gain weight; the gym together is "a 2-for-1" on their stats. At the safehouse you can only cut your hair shorter; new styles need a salon or barber.

Cops and the wanted level

  1. Official No witness, no crime. A crime only counts if someone sees it or an alarm goes off. Hollow stars mean the police don't know who you are, and the wanted level now goes up to six stars.
  2. Official The cops remember your outfit and your car. Glasses and a cap won't fool them. A whole new outfit removes the heat; so does a car they haven't seen, or splitting Jason and Lucia up.
  3. At three stars in the city, get off the streets. Official Nelson's advice is to go on foot through alleys and use Focus to spot the police. Reported Police reportedly don't show on the minimap, though the search area still does. The full rules are in our wanted system guide.
  4. Reported The controls changed. Sprint is reportedly a click of the left stick, not tapping a button. Official Hold L2 with your gun holstered to greet people, or to antagonize them.

Cars and guns

  1. Official Not every car opens with one button. Older cars need a slim jim and prestige cars a key cloner, and some stay locked until later in the story. Carjacking a driver always works.
  2. Official Scan before you steal. A phone app shows whether a car is locked, alarmed or tracked, what it's worth and what it costs to register. A stolen car only becomes yours once you pay to register it. Drive a tracked car too slowly and the police find you. More in our car stealing guide.
  3. Your guns live in your trunk. Official Every weapon you've bought is in the back of your personal vehicle, which you can call at any time. Reported On foot you reportedly carry two hidden handguns and up to two visible long guns, and people react to the long ones. See the combat guide.

Money and daily life

  1. Official The story can wait for your money. Some parts only continue once you've earned a set amount. Rockstar North's Rob Nelson put it simply to IGN:

We have made money matter more in this story.

  1. Reported Bank your cash. Money you carry is reportedly lost when you die; money in the bank is safe. Our money explainer covers cash, cards and the bank.
  2. Official You can rob almost anything, even a shop that sells headphones. But loot needs the right fence, a damaged car sells for less, and explosives destroy some of a safe's cash.
  3. Official It's not all crime. Game Informer lists base jumping, billiards, gyms, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, zoos, airboats and jet skis.
  4. Official Your phone is half the game. RydeMe works as fast travel, the radio plays on foot through your headphones, podcasts play on demand, and six radio stations are named so far (see our radio guide).
  5. Day one is single player. Official Rockstar calls GTA 6 "a single player experience", and no GTA 6 online mode is announced. Reported Nelson reportedly said there are no real-money purchases in the single-player game.

What's still unknown

A few things players want to know still have no official answer, as of October 27:

QuestionStatus
Unlock hourNot announced; store listings point to local midnight
Download size and pre-load timeNot announced
30 vs 60 fps, and the PS5 Pro upgradeNo Rockstar statement
Review embargo and trophy listNot announced
PC releaseReported for early 2027, not confirmed
A GTA 6 online modeNot announced

We'll update this guide when Rockstar answers any of them. The countdown shows how long is left.

Our take: unlearn GTA 5 first

Most of this list has one thing in common: GTA 6 punishes GTA 5 habits. Sprinting into a crowd with a rifle draws attention, a chase in a car the police have already seen goes nowhere, and blowing every safe open costs you money. Our read is that Rockstar has moved closer to Red Dead Redemption 2: slower, more physical, more about planning.

So our advice for day one is simple. Bank your money, scan cars before you take them, change your clothes when the heat is on, and keep an eye on your partner's texts. And clear the space on your console before November 12.
