You can play GTA 6 on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and nothing else at launch. Rockstar Games releases Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, and it isn't coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, Steam Deck, phones or any Nintendo console on that day. It isn't part of Game Pass or PS Plus either. Below is a clear answer for every device and service, with what's official, what's only reported and what simply hasn't been announced.
GTA 6 platforms: the quick answer for every device
Here's the whole picture in one table. "Not announced" means exactly that: nobody official has said yes or no.

Official platforms: PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S
Official Every Rockstar announcement, from the pre-order post on June 24 to the Launch Trailer on October 15, names the same two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Any PS5 model works, and so does either Xbox Series console. Our release date and platforms hub tracks every official date and price.
PS5 Pro: the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" listing
Reported GTA 6's PlayStation Store listing carries a "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge, as Insider Gaming reported. Sony and Rockstar haven't said what the enhancement adds, whether that's resolution, frame rate or something else, and no frame-rate mode has been promised on any console.
Can you play GTA 6 on Xbox Series S?
Yes. Official The Series S is covered by Rockstar's "Xbox Series X|S" listing, and there's no separate Series S edition. The catch is space. Reported A 512 GB Series S has about 364 GB of usable storage, according to TechRadar, and the only GTA 6 size reported so far is 210 GB on PS5, from PlayStation Store data reported by PlayStation LifeStyle on October 27. Official Rockstar hasn't published an Xbox size. Our file size and pre-load tracker has the full storage math, and the pre-load planner helps you get ready for November 12.
Disc or digital: does a disc-free console matter?
Official The boxed Standard Edition contains a download code, not a disc, and goes on sale November 12 so physical buyers can pre-load. The Ultimate Edition is digital only. Our read: that makes the PS5 Digital Edition and the discless Series S just as good a home for GTA 6 as any other model, because every copy ends up as a download. Our editions guide compares the $79.99 and $99.99 versions.

GTA 6 on PS4 and Xbox One: why not
No, you can't play GTA 6 on PS4 or Xbox One. Official Rockstar has only ever listed PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no last-generation version has been announced. That also means there's no PS4-to-PS5 upgrade path to wait for, because there's no PS4 version to upgrade from.
Rockstar hasn't explained the decision publicly. Our read: GTA 5 was the game that made the jump from PS3 to PS4, and GTA 6 is built around systems that lean on newer hardware, from dense crowds and traffic to a map Rockstar calls its biggest yet. Both last-gen consoles are now more than a decade old. If you're still on one, the realistic options are a PS5 or an Xbox Series console, or waiting to see what happens on PC.

PC, Steam Deck and handhelds like the ROG Ally
No PC version is announced, so there's no GTA 6 on Steam Deck either. Official Rockstar hasn't opened a PC store page on Steam, its own launcher or anywhere else. Reported GamesBeat reported on October 13 that the PC version is planned for the first quarter of 2027, citing four anonymous sources. Rockstar and Take-Two didn't comment.
Official Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told Bloomberg in May that Rockstar starts on console to serve its core audience, and at Take-Two's annual meeting on September 17 he called PC more and more important to the company. Neither is an announcement. Our GTA 6 PC release date tracker follows every update, and the next date to watch is Take-Two's earnings call on November 9.
Can you play GTA 6 on PC through the Xbox app?
No. Official Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball addressed this directly after reports of a streaming deal:
We are looking forward to launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.
Matthew Ball, Xbox CSO, via MP1st
There's also no announced Xbox Play Anywhere or cross-buy deal, so buying the Xbox version doesn't get you a PC copy.
Steam Deck, ROG Ally and Legion Go
These handhelds are PCs, so they need a PC version. Our read: Ball's "not to PC" statement also rules out streaming through the Xbox app on a Windows handheld at launch. Once a PC version exists, Steam Deck support will depend on Rockstar's specs and launcher, and Valve's Deck rating, none of which exist yet. Official There are no official GTA 6 PC system requirements.
GTA 6 on Switch 2: what's rumored vs what's said
There's no Switch 2 version of GTA 6, and none has been announced. The original Switch is out of the question too.
Official Asked about it in a Variety interview in October, Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard said it would be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar and that she had nothing to announce. Windows Report and Notebookcheck both read that as neither a confirmation nor a denial. Rockstar and Take-Two haven't commented.
Rumor The Switch 2 talk comes from leaker Nash Weedle, who claimed in June that a port is in development for 2027, that "Switch 2 port specialists" had been brought in to overcome technical hurdles, and that it won't arrive in 2026. Screen Rant noted that many fans treat the claim with skepticism. We'd treat it as unproven until Nintendo or Rockstar says otherwise.
Reported The obstacle most often raised is the processor. Notebookcheck points out that the Switch 2's eight ARM cores, six of them available to games, run at around 1 GHz, well behind the PS5 and Xbox Series CPUs that have to simulate Leonida's crowds and traffic. Lower resolution and a 30 fps cap might make a port possible, but nobody knows whether Rockstar would accept those compromises.

GTA 6 mobile: Android and iPhone
No, there's no GTA 6 for Android or iPhone. Official Rockstar hasn't announced a mobile version, a companion app or cloud streaming to phones. Official Ball's statement covers exclusivity and PC; phone streaming through Xbox Cloud Gaming hasn't been announced either way.
If you came here for the in-game phone, that's a different story: Jason and Lucia's phones run apps like a car scanner and a ride-share service. Our GTA 6 phone apps guide lists every one confirmed so far.
Game Pass, PS Plus and cloud streaming
Is GTA 6 on Game Pass or PS Plus?
No. GTA 6 isn't on Game Pass or PS Plus at launch. Official Rockstar sells it as a $79.99 Standard Edition or a $99.99 Ultimate Edition, and none of the announcements from Rockstar, Take-Two, Microsoft or Sony mentions a subscription release.
Official Take-Two has been clear about day-one subscriptions for years. On an August 2024 earnings call, Zelnick explained why the company doesn't put new premium games into subscription services:
Offering a frontline title with a premium price in a subscription service, day and date, will push consumers to that subscription service.
Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two CEO, via GTA BOOM
That doesn't rule out a subscription years from now. Reported GTA 5 first joined the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog in December 2023, more than 10 years after launch, and has rotated in and out since, according to GamerFuzion. Our read: don't hold off buying GTA 6 in the hope it lands on Game Pass or PS Plus soon.
Do you need PS Plus or Game Pass Essential to play GTA 6?
Official Rockstar describes Grand Theft Auto VI as a single player experience, and none of the editions mention an online mode. So there's nothing announced that would need PS Plus Essential or Game Pass Essential (formerly Core). Our read: a digital copy will still need to be online once to unlock on November 19 and grab any day-one update, but that isn't the same as a paid membership.
Official The free GTA+ month for digital pre-orders is Rockstar's own membership for the existing GTA Online, not PS Plus or Game Pass, and not part of GTA 6's story. Our read: if Rockstar adds an online mode later, the usual console rules for paid online play would probably apply, but that's not announced.
Cloud streaming: Xbox Cloud Gaming and PS Plus Premium
Reported On October 7, The Verge's Tom Warren reported that Xbox had secured exclusive cloud streaming rights to GTA 6, which would have let people stream the game to PCs, phones and handhelds at launch. MP1st and others picked it up. Official Xbox's Matthew Ball refuted it the same day: no streaming exclusivity, and no streaming to PC.
What's left is unclear. Official Microsoft hasn't confirmed whether GTA 6 will be on Xbox Cloud Gaming at all on other devices. Official Sony hasn't announced PS Plus Premium cloud streaming for GTA 6. Reported Xbox is also adding monthly cloud streaming caps in November, reported by MP1st as 15, 10 and 5 hours for Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and Essential, with extra hours sold separately. For a game this long, streaming wouldn't be a full substitute for a console even if it were offered.

Our take: which device should you play GTA 6 on?
If you want GTA 6 on November 19, the choice is simple: a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. Our read is that any of them gets you the full game, since every edition is the same game and every copy is a download. A PS5 Pro has an "Enhanced" badge with no details yet. A Series S works, but plan your storage before pre-load opens.
If you're on PS4, Xbox One, a Switch 2, a Steam Deck or only a phone, nothing official lets you play on launch day, and no cloud service is a confirmed workaround. PC and Steam Deck players have the strongest reason to wait: the reported Q1 2027 window, plus a Take-Two boss who keeps talking up PC. Switch 2 owners have only a rumor. And anyone offering GTA 6 on a phone today is scamming you.
FAQ
Can you play GTA 6 on PS4?
No. Rockstar has only announced GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and there's no PS4 version or PS4-to-PS5 upgrade. You'll need a PS5, PS5 Slim, PS5 Digital Edition or PS5 Pro.
Is GTA 6 on Xbox One?
No. GTA 6 is on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S only. No Xbox One version has been announced, and Xbox has said the game won't stream to PC at launch.
Can you play GTA 6 on Xbox Series S?
Yes. The Series S is part of Rockstar's official "Xbox Series X|S" listing. Storage is the issue: a 512 GB Series S has about 364 GB of usable space, and the only reported size so far is 210 GB on PS5.
Is GTA 6 coming to Switch 2 or Steam Deck?
Neither is announced. Nintendo of America's president said a Switch 2 version is up to Take-Two and Rockstar, and a 2027 port is only a rumor. Steam Deck needs a PC version, which GamesBeat reported for Q1 2027 without confirmation.
Is GTA 6 on Game Pass or PS Plus?
No. GTA 6 is a full-price purchase at $79.99 or $99.99, and Take-Two has long avoided putting new games on subscriptions on day one. Nothing has been announced for later.
Do you need PS Plus to play GTA 6?
Nothing announced says so. Rockstar calls GTA 6 a single player experience with no online mode mentioned, so PS Plus or Game Pass Essential isn't listed as a requirement. Expect to be online once when the game unlocks on November 19, which doesn't need a paid membership.
